Virginia’s Department of Education has chosen two companies, Zearn and Ignite Reading, to provide statewide “high-impact” tutoring services for math and reading in an effort to address low test results among public school students. The move comes in response to stagnant student achievement, with scores below pre-pandemic levels in the 2022-23 Standards of Learning tests. The state is prioritizing students in need of tutoring based on factors such as SOL test results. The selected providers are required to offer evidence-based literacy and math instruction through web-based platforms that can be used both in and outside the classroom.
