Every Ignite Reading tutor educator starts by participating in our paid 9-week Science of Reading Certification Program to learn how to deliver our foundational skills curriculum.

You’ll get everything you need to become a highly skilled reading instructor:

Structured literacy knowledge you can apply to future careers
Experience teaching a Science of Reading-based curriculum
Skills in culturally responsive teaching and behavior management
Coaching and feedback from literacy specialists

Become a Tutor

Certification Program Format

Our Science of Reading Certification Program kicks off with a 75—minute asynchronous online course that covers all of the key technology tools and HR details you’ll need for working with Ignite Reading. After that, classes begin.

Weeks 1-3

Classes

Monday–Friday you’ll alternate between IgniteU online courses on your own time one day and synchronous training with peers over Zoom the next.

Every day: 2 hours

Weeks 4-9

Classes + Tutoring

Every Monday–Friday you’ll spend one hour of synchronous class time on Zoom with peers and 90 minutes tutoring.

Every day: 2 ½ hours

Tutors may opt to spend even more hours tutoring.

Pay: Earn $17.50/hour until you complete your certification classes and tutoring practicum time.
Credential: Graduate with a certificate from our Science of Reading Certification Program and all the tools you need to be a successful reading instructor.

After Certification—What Comes Next?

Once you’re certified, you’ll continue tutoring the students you were paired with during certification and can add more students to your schedule. Ignite Reading tutors work from 8 to 30 hours per week tutoring students for 15—minute sessions at the same time every Monday–Friday throughout the school year.

Tutor Performance Managers
TPMs will be your primary managers, ensuring you receive the coaching and resources for doing your best work with students. Experienced coaches will observe your sessions, offer tips for more effective teaching, and even jump into sessions to help resolve challenges.
Dedicated Tutor Support Team
Our friendly tutor support team is on hand to help you schedule sessions and lend assistance over email. An online knowledge base will make it easy to find helpful resources and answers to frequently asked questions.
Online Tutor Community
Ignite Reading’s online tutor community is a supportive place to ask questions, share tips, and get to know your fellow tutor educators.
