Ignite! Reading partners with LRSD to raise literacy levels

The Little Rock School District is partnering with a literacy organization to raise elementary reading levels across the state. Ignite! Reading is a one-to-one tutoring opportunity giving students a chance to sharpen their reading skills, pushing them toward future success. The organization recently expanded nationwide in 35 schools and districts across seven states, such as California, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon, and Arkansas. According to Ignite! Reading children within the LRSD mirror national level statistics with only 30 percent of students reading at grade level by the time they enter the fourth grade. With Ignite’s partnership, 1,000 students between 12 elementary schools in the Little Rock School District have received 15-minute sessions each day focused on foundational reading skills.
